Living in the Western Suburbs
Houses in the western suburbs have a variety of architectural styles. There is everything from turn-of-the-century farm houses to estate style mansions to modest starter homes. Whether a community has its roots in the 19th century or planned after World War II, all towns in the western region have excellent schools, transportation, well maintained parks, and an assortment of recreational facilities.
Commuters ride the Barrington Northern. The East-West (I-88) Tollway, the Kennedy (I-290), the Stevenson (I-55), and the Eisenhower highway provide links to downtown Chicago.
Hinsdale has a picturesque downtown shopping district.
Oak Brook Center has more than 100 stores (many exclusive), and Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard has more than 125 stores.
Downers Grove includes more than 50 downtown shops and services. At 75th and Lemont Road there are several chain stores.
Western Springs has the Garden Market Mall with both specialty and supermarkets available. It also has a charming downtown area with ample shopping.
LaGrange has extensive shopping and many specialty restaurants in the downtown area.
There are several hospitals in the western suburbs. All provide community education. Hinsdale Hospital has over 450 beds, and comprehensive emergency room, oncology services, rehabilitative services, and obstetrical care. Good Samaritan Hospital, in Downers Grove , is a full service facility with special emphasis on cardiac services. Edward Hospital, in Naperville , has a full range of medical services. Columbia LaGrange Memorial Hospital is conveniently located in the Western Springs /LaGrange area.
